Mono Mondays: Jeweled Slimes
Share
On Mondays, we like to support our resident artist, Mono! They're an up-and-coming scribbler of things dark and weird, and we consider ourselves lucky to have leeched onto— er, formed a mutually beneficial relationship with them. You can watch Mono hard at work creating various pieces on their YouTube channel. For those who don't feel like watching digital paint getting splashed around, we'll be showcasing a different piece of theirs right here every Monday.
This week is just a little psychedelic.

What you're looking at is a dark, dark hole, with a series of glowing outcroppings. And, amidst those outcroppings, are a group of slimes that have been eating said outcroppings.
If you've been keeping up with Mono's lore, you'll recall that their slimes are thaumavores- that is, they eat objects imbued with magic. As is common with slime lore throughout the interwebs, basic slimes are simple creatures, but can evolve rapidly. Also a common feature: the slimes' diet plays a significant role in their evolution. One example is these little guys. A diet of magical crystals has turned them into jeweled slimes. They're smaller and denser than normal slimes, and rather than the transparent goo that normal slimes seem to be made of, they have bodies that seem to be made of glowing, hardened rock. "These guys are less flexible due to their diet and way harder to break due to the tough outer shell they have," Mono says, adding that the glowing color they give off is only partially camouflage. Their color is semi-controllable, influenced by the jeweled slime's emotion.
...Which makes these colorful, glowing creatures, in a sense, living mood rings.
