Mono Mondays: The Coin Dragon

Mono Mondays: The Coin Dragon

On Mondays, we like to support our resident artist, Mono!  They're an up-and-coming scribbler of things dark and weird, and we consider ourselves lucky to have leeched onto— er, formed a mutually beneficial relationship with them.  You can watch Mono hard at work creating various pieces on their YouTube channel.  For those who don't feel like watching digital paint getting splashed around, we'll be showcasing a different piece of theirs right here every Monday.

This week features Mono's take on a meme from a few years back.

Mono, as many do nowadays, lives on the internet, and they recently encountered the Coin Dragon meme.  For those not in the know, it started as a writing prompt: a tiny dragon fiercely defending the world's smallest hoard, a single coin.  It turned into a short story about said coin being freely used in a market, with the implicit knowledge that the dragon would be coming with it.  It is a cute story, and Mono decided to draw the coin dragon's trade to the Slime King from their earlier works.  The Slime King, Mono says, would be fascinated by the compact little magical creature, and would happily chat with it for a time before honoring the local customs and trading it to the next traveler.

Of course, this wouldn't be a Mono piece if there wasn't something weird going on, and so we get a tiny dragon with glowing freckles and mildly translucent skin.  But hey, that doesn't make it any less cute!
