Mono Mondays: "To the Deerest, Part One"
Share
On Mondays, we like to support our resident artist, Mono! They're an up-and-coming scribbler of things dark and weird, and we consider ourselves lucky to have leeched onto— er, formed a mutually beneficial relationship with them. You can watch Mono hard at work creating various pieces on their YouTube channel. For those who don't feel like watching digital paint getting splashed around, we'll be showcasing a different piece of theirs right here every Monday.
This week's work: "To the Deerest, Part One"

A combination of Greek mythology and dark dreams inspired this particular piece of digital artwork. According to Mono, "The deer comes from a dream I had where one deer appeared every night for three nights." Apparently, the three deer had an ongoing conflict that reminded Mono of the myth of the Apple of Discord.
For those not in the know, the apple of Greek myth was inscribed with the words "to the fairest," and three goddesses claimed the apple was meant for them. Resolving that argument led directly to the most devastating and celebrated war in Greek mythology.
Considering the three deer in question, the resolution of their more personal argument will be more disturbing.
We'll talk about all three deer eventually, but for this week, Mono wanted to focus on the eldest in particular. "The oldest (this one) is the control freak and everything has to go their way, which is why they're gripping the apple so tightly that there are cracks in it."
Is this deer the "Deerest" of the three siblings? Feel free to hazard a guess, but odds are, we'll need to steal a movie tagline: "Whoever wins, we lose."
